Genesis appoints new Chairman

Genesis Housing Association has appointed Dipesh Shah OBE to be its new Chairman.  Dipesh joins at an important time as Genesis steps up the delivery of its five year Corporate Strategy.

Dipesh has had a diverse executive career in the energy sector, holding varied roles during nearly thirty years at BP and thereafter serving as the Chief Executive of the UK Atomic Energy Authority.

Alongside this, he has a wide portfolio of past and present non-executive roles in infrastructure organisations, and currently chairs the Investment Committee of the 2020 European Fund for Energy, Climate Change and Infrastructure (the Marguerite Fund).  He acts as the Main Board Commissioner for the Crown Estate, and is on the board of Thames Water. He previously has chaired the energy company Viridian Group PLC and served on the Board of Babcock International Group PLC and Lloyds of London. He received an OBE in the Queen’s 2007 New Year’s Honour List.

Dipesh will be taking over from Charles Gurassa, who has been Genesis Chairman since 2010.  The Genesis Board confirmed his formal appointment at their meeting on 12 January.

Dipesh Shah OBE, new Chairman of Genesis Housing Association

Neil Hadden, Chief Executive of Genesis Housing Association, said: “We are delighted to welcome Dipesh as our new Chairman.  His wealth of experience shone through in a field of very high calibre candidates, and this will be integral to the leadership of Genesis over the coming years.

“I also want to thank Charles Gurassa, who has been an excellent and committed Chairman over the last six years.  We wish him well in all his future endeavours.”

Dipesh Shah said: “I am really pleased to be joining Genesis at such an exciting time for the organisation.

“Housing is top of the political agenda at the moment, and Genesis is very clear on how it is intending to rise to the challenge of delivering much-needed new homes and supporting our existing residents.  I look forward to working with the board, senior teams and everyone at Genesis to help deliver on our ambitious plans well into the future.”

Charles Gurassa said: “It has been a great privilege to be Chair at Genesis over the last six years. We have achieved a great deal in that time but there remains much still to do as access to affordable housing remains so difficult for so many in our community. I would like to thank all my colleagues and our residents for their support and wish Dipesh, Neil and all at Genesis every success for the future”.
