Closing Date Thursday 16 Sep 2021

Artangel is a completely unique organisation known internationally for building collaborative, long-term relationships with artists, and for its fearlessness in commissioning new work with courage and without constraint. The work Artangel produces boldly responds to the environment in which we live and is often unlike anything experienced before. Artangel projects inspire all kinds of collaboration and participation across extended periods of space and time, developing daring new works for specific, often unusual, places.

Since 1991 Artangel has been led by James Lingwood and Michael Morris, who, supported by a dedicated and experienced team, have been responsible for producing some of the most iconic art of the last 25 years. James and Michael have announced that they will be stepping down and the Board are looking for an outstanding candidate to fill the post of Director. James and Michael will complete projects they have initiated as part of the transition to new leadership and have left an excellent foundation for the incoming Director to develop Artangel to continued future success.

The new leadership will be responsible for the overall artistic vision, direction, and delivery of Artangel and its work, and for the success and health of the organisation, especially the well-being of its employees and its workplace culture. It is expected that the postholder will pursue consistent excellence and harness change with diligence and care, attuned to the times we are in now. The Board are looking for leadership with courage of conviction. A leader who can build an artistic programme which is highly original and innovative with broad reach. A leader for whom the site-specific is real, vital and worth protecting. A leader who will embrace and incorporate diversity as a creative force.

This role is for an exceptional person who understands the value of engagement and participation in the widest sense. They will be someone who can nurture and support Artangel’s community – artists, audiences, supporters, workforce and digital.

Artangel are committed to creating a workforce which is representative of our society, and to bringing together those with a variety of skills and experiences to help shape what we do and how we work. We are particularly keen to hear from people with ethnically diverse backgrounds and those who identify as disabled.
