The BBC is the world’s leading public service broadcaster, established by a Royal Charter and funded primarily by the licence fee that is paid by UK households. The BBC uses this income to provide services including network TV channels across the UK, national and regional programming, 10 national radio stations, 40 local radio stations and an extensive online presence.

BBC Content includes the television commissioning genre teams, channel teams for BBC One, Two, Three, Four, CBeebies, CBBC and BBC Sport and iPlayer along with all network Radio Stations and Sounds. The division brings together channels and commissioning  and Digital production to provide the best television, radio and online content in the world, wherever and whenever audiences want it.  BBC Content commissions a range of high quality content and some of the UK’s most loved programmes across network TV, iPlayer, Sounds and Radio. It has won a range of awards across a broad range of categories within the industry.

The BBC is now looking to recruit a new Director of Finance in leading and managing the finances of the Content division and working closely with this award winning team to ensure their continued success.

Main Responsibilities

To play a key leadership role within the BBC Content division, working closely with the senior leaders of the division, and providing strategic financial guidance against a backdrop of fast-paced change.

Lead overall finance partnering for the BBC Content division, providing finance oversight across all of our content and services to objectively shape the future direction of the business.

Set and drive the framework for assessing the audience value delivered from our content across all platforms, facilitating discussions and leading all aspects of resource allocation against audience priorities.

Develop and increase opportunities for growing commercial and partnership income streams.

To maintain and develop the control and assurance environment.

Use planning and modelling to provide advice and guidance on the financial strategy.

Ensure there are cohesive, coordinated and aligned finance partnering activities towards key financial deadlines, i.e. financial planning, investment cases, portfolio prioritisation and internal reporting.

Establish a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationships across the division and broader Finance community.

To lead on developing the financial literacy and confidence of the leadership network at all levels across the Content division.

Build, lead, mentor and retain a high performing and cohesive team to attain the Finance and Operations Division’s objectives and aspirations.

1.Strategic Leadership

Strategic capability to support the continuing growth of the BBC Content division within an accelerated change environment.

Evidence of taking responsibility for agreed plans and strategic direction.

Track record of setting clear, ambitious, achievable goals with your team for both performance and behaviours, and of developing and nurturing talent.

2.Financial Direction

Successful track record of working in a highly regulated/complex environment. It is imperative you have strong financial reporting skills with the ability to operate and influence across a complex matrixed global organisational structure.

The role requires an experienced finance professional who is both financially astute and understands how to present these into a compelling narrative to a variety of Stakeholders. You’ll collaborate with senior stakeholders to develop, track and analyse performance on strategic issues of importance.

In depth understanding of core financial processes and relevant systems coupled with evidence of continuous/process improvement with a track record of delivering effectiveness & efficiency is highly advantageous.

Extensive experience in managing significant budgets and understanding key financial drivers.
