Bishop Wordsworth's School
Headteacher

The Governors of Bishop Wordsworth’s School are seeking an exceptional individual to join their school community as Headteacher. This is a unique opportunity for an inspirational leader to shape the future of a high-performing and well-respected state grammar school that has a strong sense of community and tradition. The School, which is a Single Academy Trust, educates approximately 1200 students (boys 11-18 and girls 16-18) adjacent to Salisbury Cathedral, not only achieving well academically, but also providing a rich extra-curricular offering.
Whilst the School was graded Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ in 2024, the Governors and Leadership team are not complacent and the next Headteacher will have a chance to shape the future vision and strategy for the school, working closely with a committed and highly experienced group of colleagues.
The Governors welcome applications from candidates who have worked in high performing and academically selective schools and have significant leadership experience, most likely as a Deputy Head or Head. Prior state grammar school experience is not a pre-requisite. What is important is that the next Headteacher is an inspirational and confident leader, who can empower and support others to achieve and will ensure that the School continues to thrive, succeed and evolve. In return, the Headteacher will lead a school with a distinctive ethos and a deep connection to the community it serves, where there is a strong culture of academic achievement and an appetite for further improvement. You will be an integral part of a diverse community, where there is a strong commitment to fostering a culture of wellbeing and inclusivity.
The Governors are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check, a Section 128 Management check, and other relevant pre-employment checks, including satisfactory references.
