Trustees

Job Reference TAHASB
Closing Date Monday 24 May 2021

At BPAS, we trust women and their choices.
Our ambition is to be part of a future where every woman is able to exercise reproductive autonomy and is empowered to make her own decisions about pregnancy. Our purpose is to remove all barriers to reproductive choice and to advocate for and deliver high quality, women-centred reproductive healthcare. We are a UK based organisation, but our staff are global advocates for women’s reproductive rights. Services have grown twelvefold in recent years and the introduction of Assisted Conception services means that BPAS will now encompass a wider spectrum of women’s reproductive health. At all levels of our organisation, the BPAS team is committed and enthusiastic about what the future could bring, with a clear dedication to what BPAS does and achieves for women.
BPAS are now looking to bring up to three talented new Trustees on to their board, who will contribute their skills and expertise to the betterment of the organisation’s values and strategy. The Trustees will bring expertise in the following:
Financial and Commercial Leadership credentials
As part of our succession planning, we seek a trustee with extensive experience of financial and commercial leadership. We are interested in candidates from both non-profit and for-profit backgrounds, and you will need to be a qualified Accountant. We are particularly interested in candidates who have led their organisation through a significant change or transformation. This Trustee will play a key role on the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee, supporting the board in spotting strategic, operational and financial risks and opportunities, and in developing our plans and monitoring progress against them.
Communications, Engagement and Influencing credentials
Effective advocacy is at the heart of BPAS’ success. To support our executive team’s leadership in this area, and as part of our succession planning, we would like to appoint a Trustee with a track record of impact and leadership across communications, engagement and advocacy. Ideal candidates will have experience of building strong, influential relationships and partnerships across the public and private sectors, and of leading Communications, External Affairs or Advocacy and Campaigning. This person will be able to advise the executive team on their Communications and Government Affairs strategies, leveraging their insights and understanding for BPAS’ benefit.
BPAS’ mission is to support women’s reproductive autonomy, and our commitment is to do that across all communities and backgrounds. BPAS is an inclusive organisation, and we would like to bring onto our board Trustees with experience building inclusive and diverse cultures within their own organisations. We are looking for individuals who bring diversity of thought, lived experience and background, and who can bring new and challenging perspectives to the organisation. Within and beyond these priority areas, BPAS would like to bring commercial and digital transformation leadership credentials, complex charity and/or private health experience to the board.
