Do you believe in the transformative power of film for individuals and communities? Are you passionate and knowledgeable about films, filmmakers and audiences? Are you an exceptional creative visionary and natural leader? Do you want to live and work in the world’s leading festival city?
At a time of massive change in the film industry, the CMI is looking to the long term and is recruiting a Chief Creative Officer to create, lead and champion the creative vision and voice of Edinburgh International Film Festival and Filmhouse Cinemas, by placing film, the filmmaker and audiences at the heart of everything they do. This is a new role and is responsible for developing and driving the creative vision and strategies for the whole of the CMI, including its curated screenings programmes, and its community engagement, learning, talent and industry development programmes.
The CMI believes that they will be stronger with greater diversity at all levels in the organisation and therefore welcome applications from those who bring difference.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the qualities of a strategic, visionary and creative leader with strong communication skills and a passion and energy for film. They will bring deep knowledge of the sector and the ability to champion the dynamic vision and voice of Edinburgh International Film Festival and Filmhouse Cinemas. A background gained broadly across the arts, film and screen will be crucial. As a member of the senior leadership team, they will bring an inclusive and inspiring leadership style.
Centre for the Moving Image (CMI) is a creative, bold and innovative national organisation with bases in Edinburgh and Aberdeen, which uses film in all its guises to transform people’s lives – through the watching, making and understanding of film. It stands at the forefront of the development of a vibrant and successful film industry and culture across Scotland and beyond.
The CMI incorporates Scotland’s leading independent cinema, Filmhouse, one of the world’s longest running film festivals, Edinburgh International Film Festival, and the Belmont Filmhouse in Aberdeen. The CMI is aiming to increase the range and quality of opportunities for a wider range of people to be inspired by and engage with film and the moving image, centred on artistic quality and excellence, genuine inclusivity and in an environmentally sustainable way. As a leader in its field, the CMI works to positively challenge, take risks, and believes in the independence of voice and genuine choice for audiences.
