Job Reference: CHAIR – OAHAZA/ NED – OAHAZB
Closing Date: Noon, Monday 3rd February 2020
‘Place’ is a key foundation of productivity and a driver of Britain’s future economic success. The Connected Places Catapult (CPC) accelerates smarter living and travelling in and between the places of tomorrow. Operating at the intersection of the public and private sectors we focus on growing businesses with innovations in mobility services and the built environment that enable new levels of physical, digital and social connectedness. Our mission is to help British businesses address the grand challenges of today in order to create Connected Places, fit for the future.
The CPC is currently developing an ambitious new strategy which will run until 2025 that will strengthen and drive growth within the UK’s connected places market, accelerate the commercialisation of services that provide products and services in this market, and identify and cultivate innovation in the connectivity of our cities and transport structures. To both hold the executive to account and support the executive on the delivery of this strategy, CPC is looking to appoint to several non-executive board vacancies, including a Chair who will take up post in 2020 as the terms of existing Chair and non-executives’ come to an end.
As part of the Board, Non-executive Directors will provide strategic leadership to the CPC, and will challenge and support the CEO and executive whilst scrutinising CPC’s performance and progress against its strategy and targets. They will also develop and maintain key relationships within industry, government, academia and other key stakeholders. We are open to considering candidates from a range of sectors, though small and medium business experience; digital, data, AI and information technology expertise; and a track record in innovation or entrepreneurialism are of particular interest.
A demonstrable understanding of the Catapult’s remit will be sought, alongside a proven track record of successful leadership and governance within an organisation of similar complexity. Board experience and evidence of having successfully engaged across a range of sectors (government, academia, industry, public agencies, economic regulators) are highly desirable qualities, as is experience of working with organisations targeted in CPC engagement plans, such as start-ups, SMEs, SME investors or university spin-outs. Strong candidates will bring an understanding of operating in an environment with both commercial and political priorities. Finally, candidates will bring ambassadorial qualities to the board.
