Job Reference FADAMA
Closing Date Tuesday 26 Feb 2019

Cornerstone Barristers, a leading chambers established in 1880, seeks a new Chief Executive to provide leadership within the set. Helping to ensure the continued commercial success of the chambers, developing its members and staff, and driving change through the strategic plan, the Chief Executive will be a vital member of a thriving, intellectually stimulating, community.

Cornerstone consists of fifty-seven barristers, including fifteen Queen’s Counsel, who specialise in planning, local government, housing, licensing, commercial, property, data-protection, health and safety, regulatory and general public law. It is an organisation marked by excellence in its practice areas, with barristers who are not only legal experts but sector specialists: providing real perspective to clients. At the same time it is a genuine community, recognised externally for its supportive culture.

The Chief Executive is expected to play a leading role within the chambers, providing strategic leadership while understanding the individual needs of each barrister. S/He will support and enhance the development of the Cornerstone brand so that it stands out in a competitive legal word. S/He will lead the internal team in the provision of outstanding services, play a crucial role in tendering processes, and proactively look to develop every member of the chambers.

The successful candidate is likely to have occupied a senior, if not the senior, executive role in a respected organisation, with responsibility for development and implementation of strategy. Experience and a successful track record in developing professional services businesses with private and public sector clients would be an advantage, but equivalent experience will also be considered. Candidates not from a legal background will need to bring themselves up to date on issues facing the Bar and the profession.
