Cycling UK
Director of External Affairs

Cycling UK’s mission is to inspire millions more people to cycle.
Founded more than 140 years ago as the Cyclists’ Touring Club, today we are a registered charity and the voice for cycling across all four nations of the UK. We exist to inspire and enable many more people to cycle, to lobby for cyclists’ needs and provide services to members.
In recent years we have gone from strength to strength. We have grown significantly and over the last year we reached more people than we have ever done before. We are now nearing the end of our current strategy and are on target to achieve many of our aims. In the next 12 months we will develop a new strategy and review our mission to ensure that our work remains relevant and impactful in the coming years.
We see huge opportunities ahead to ensure that cycling is baked into government policies and individual behaviour across all four UK nations. As our community cycling work matures, we have robust evidence of the impact of our work to leverage. We are seeking a Director of External Affairs with the energy, ambition and experience to help us to realise these opportunities.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding leader who brings significant experience at a senior level leading policy, campaigning or communications functions in an ambitious comparable-sized organisation. A strong track record of successful political influencing work, including building cross-party support, through relationship-building, advocacy and media work will be vital, as is experience of leading, motivating and developing people at all levels.
Cycling UK recognises the enormous benefits of a diverse organisation and actively and warmly encourages applications from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.
