Swansea University is a research-led institution that has enjoyed a period of tremendous growth, and is one of the leading Universities in the UK for graduate employment prospects – Listed in the top 15 in The Complete University Guide and the Times, and top 5 in the Guardian, equal with Cambridge. Swansea University was the winner of the What University ‘University of the Year’ 2019 – An award exclusively voted for by students. In its recent history, the University has developed an enterprising culture that has afforded significant partnerships with industry and commerce, and also with academic institutions globally. With over 20,000 students, Swansea University needs a professional services workforce that delivers excellence through efficient and effective systems and processes that harness innovation in technology.
A key member of the University’s Senior Management Team (SMT), the Director of Finance will oversee a complex organisation with an income in excess £300m; ensuring its finance function contributes effectively to its broad strategic aims while continuing to deliver best-in-class systems and processes. The Director of Finance will report to the Registrar & COO, be a clear voice for financial resilience and probity, as well as strong corporate governance in the widest sense, and be a central figure in the development of a new financial strategy.
The University is seeking an experienced and senior finance professional with the strategic, operational and leadership nous to provide outstanding financial guidance and stewardship to an ambitious institution. The Director of Finance will engage with the Senior Management Team, the Court and key external stakeholders and will therefore need to be a confident and bright person, with a sense of gravitas and authority. It is expected that this person will be financially qualified, with significant post-qualification experience. Finally it is important to the University that they demonstrate the leadership values of professionalism, caring and collaboration.
