Durham University is now seeking an outstanding candidate to join the Council as a Lay Member. Members of Council are responsible for the stewardship of the University, overseeing its strategy, performance and regularly reviewing the effectiveness of University’s governance. The Council is looking to appoint someone with strategic and senior experience within complex organisations of scale. Applications would be welcomed from candidates with senior experience in the field of finance. Experience within major estate, infrastructure and commercialisation would be an added benefit.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of the governance duties, responsibilities and liabilities of a non-Executive or trustee role. A strong commitment to the values and aims of the University are critical along with excellent interpersonal and networking skills. The time commitment is a minimum of 18 days per year and meetings are likely to take place both virtually and in person in the future.
