Director of Land and Estates

Job Reference YAXWC
Closing Date Tuesday 16 Oct 2018

Epilepsy Society is the UK’s largest and leading provider of epilepsy services.  Through our cutting edge research, awareness campaigns, information resources and expert care, we work for everyone affected by epilepsy in the UK.  Through close partnerships with University College London, the Institute of Neurology and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, the Society has pioneered innovative research which brings the hope of a cure for epilepsy closer.  With a relatively new Chief Executive and Chair, this is an exciting time to join Epilepsy Society as we expand our ambitions for the organisation.  We generate a healthy annual income of around £17m, but there is a focus on substantially growing reserves and income to further increase the Society’s impact for such an important cause.  With an exciting research project underway, in addition to the excellent work Epilepsy Society already does in caring for, advising and advocating for those with epilepsy, this is a chance to make a real contribution to an important cause.

The Director of Land and Estates will take a lead role in supporting the development of our estates strategy.  Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Executive and other senior directors, this individual will be part of ongoing discussions taking place locally around the greenbelt, guiding these complex discussions on our behalf.  At the same time, this person will oversee the management of the existing estate, ensuring compliance with legislation and regulation, and pulling on the resources of a range of experts.  This Director will lead and co-ordinate estates and facilities planning so the organisation works as successfully internally as it is impactful externally.

Crucial to achieving our objectives is the requirement for a high level of commercial acumen and the ability to build strong, productive relationships with a diverse stakeholder group – the executive, senior academic colleagues, and key external suppliers and partners.  The requirement is for a proven head of estates who can bring a strong blend of strategic, operational and business skills. You will have a background of high level responsibility for the built environment and in-depth knowledge of current regulations.  More importantly, you will have highly developed management skills, and a good understanding and experience of managing soft FM services with a strong customer ethos.

This is a prestigious and high profile appointment which offers the opportunity to take the Epilepsy Society’s estates function to the next level.
