Location: London Docklands and Coventry. Travel will be expected between locations.  Hybrid working policy, with everyone working at least four days across a fortnight in the office.

Every year the Financial Ombudsman Service (the Ombudsman) resolves hundreds of thousands of disputes between consumers or small businesses and their financial service providers.  Over recent years, we have undertaken significant change.  With the conclusion of PPI and the economies of scale that brought, together with a changing financial landscape – we are making a step change to enhance our service by setting the standard for modern, efficient, accessible and alternative dispute resolution. Looking forward, we will continue to have a significant change agenda following the publishing of our independent review to meet our statutory remit and our strategic goals.

The Ombudsman is looking to appoint a Director of Communications who will be joining us at a pivotal point in our transformation journey.  You will be responsible for leading the communications function and for the development and implementation of our internal and external communications strategies.  Reporting directly into the Chief Executive and Chief Ombudsman and as a member of the Executive Committee, you will provide counsel to the CEO, the Chair, the Board, and fellow Executive Team members.

As part of the organisation’s executive leadership team, you will play your part in leading the organisation at a time of fundamental change, where the demands and expectations of us are high.  You will be a key ambassador for the organisation and will build and nurture relationships with the media and other key stakeholders and may serve as a spokesperson and media contact for the Ombudsman.

Candidates will have extensive experience working in communications at a senior level across functions including media relations and reputation management, in a complex organisation(s).  You will be a strategic leader who is used to being highly involved in business decisions, with a strong track record delivering practical and innovative responses to complex issues, both internally and externally.  You will inspire and lead by example to drive excellence across the Ombudsman.
