Recruitment begins for Chief Conductor of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet

The Finnish National Opera and Ballet (FNOB) is beginning the recruitment process for a new Chief Conductor, as the term of current Chief Conductor Hannu Lintu expires in July 2026.

The FNOB is looking for a conductor specialising in opera who will contribute to the development of our art form and of the professional skills of the orchestra and opera singers of the National Opera. The Chief Conductor’s duties include providing support for guest conductors. The Chief Conductor will be expected to be an active member of the workplace community and to work in close collaboration with the Artistic Directors of the Opera and of the Ballet, reporting directly to the Artistic Director of the Opera.

The recruitment process is international and open to all applicants and is undertaken with the expert assistance of Saxton Bampfylde. The goal is to have the new Chief Conductor selected by the end of this year.

The FNOB is an international community with 33 nationalities currently represented among its personnel. The company gave 232 performances in 2025, of which 163 in the main auditorium. Some performances are available via streaming or as recordings. The vision in our strategy is Opera and Ballet belongs to everyone.

Suomen kansallisoopperan ja -baletin ylikapellimestarin hakuprosessi alkaa

Suomen kansallisooppera ja -baletti aloittaa uuden ylikapellimestarin rekrytoinnin. Nykyisen ylikapellimestari Hannu Linnun sopimus päättyy heinäkuussa 2026.

Kansallisooppera ja -baletti hakee oopperaan erikoistunutta kapellimestaria, joka omalta osaltaan kehittää taidemuotojamme sekä Kansallisoopperan orkesterin ja oopperalaulajien ammattitaitoa. Tehtävänä on lisäksi tukea vierailevien kapellimestareiden työtä. Ylikapellimestari on aktiivinen työyhteisön jäsen ja työskentelee tiiviissä yhteistyössä oopperan ja baletin taiteellisten johtajien kanssa. Hän raportoi oopperan taiteelliselle johtajalle.

Kansainvälinen haku toteutetaan avoimella haulla sekä ulkopuolisen rekrytointiasiantuntijan Saxton & Bambfylden avulla. Tavoitteena on, että uusi ylikapellimestari on valittu vuodenvaihteeseen mennessä.

Kansallisooppera ja -baletti on kansainvälinen työyhteisö, jossa on edustettuna tällä hetkellä 33 kansallisuutta. Vuonna 2025 päänäyttämöllä on 163 esitystä, ja kaiken kaikkiaan esityksiä on 232. Osa teoksista on katsottavissa suoratoistoina ja tallenteina. Strategian visio on Kaikkien ooppera ja baletti.
