Francis Holland Schools Trust is seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the role of Chair of Governing Council. This is an exciting time to join the Governing Council at Francis Holland, and the successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to participate in shaping the Trust’s strategic vision for developing its priorities and broadening its horizons even further.
Established in the 1870s by Canon Francis Holland, chaplain to Queen Victoria and King Edward VII, Francis Holland comprises three independent day schools for girls located in Central London. Francis Holland Schools Trust governs two senior schools (ages 11-18) at Regent’s Park and Sloane Square, and an incorporated junior school (ages 4-11) at the Sloane Square site. The Trust’s aim to instil a love of learning and the self-belief for each of their 1100 pupils. Francis Holland encourages its girls to build life skills and values — chiefly confidence, curiosity, and creativity —throughout their education. The Chair of Governing Council will be committed to all girls’ education and to the ethos of the school, espousing its core values: love (a heart for service), joy (an infectious enthusiasm for life) and peace (a deep inner strength and harmony).
Collectively with the other members of the Governing Council, the Chair will be expected to ensure that the Trust has a clear strategic vision, as well as attending to current operational issues. The Chair will be responsible for ensuring that the Governing Body’s strategic vision is analysed, expressed and implemented via clear objectives in collaboration with each school’s individual Development Plan. As such, the successful candidate will have experience of a wide range of management disciplines, such as strategic planning, legal and HR issues, marketing, coaching, mentoring, and/or financial planning. Francis Holland welcomes applicants from all backgrounds, though it is essential that candidates possess leadership experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate awareness of developments in the education and charity sectors and be able to balance providing direction with seeking consensus.
