Frontline

Chair

Job Reference BATAFB
Closing Date Wednesday 25 Aug 2021

Each year, over 700,000 children in England rely on the support of a social worker. These children and their families face some of the worst life chances, but we know that great social work has the power to change this.

In eight short years, Frontline has evolved from a simple idea to the highly regarded, innovative and successful catalyser of transformational change in social work it is today. Through the fast-track graduate training Frontline programme and the Firstline programme developing future leaders in social work, we will have brought 2,300 into the profession by this year. To date over 98,000 children and families have been supported by Frontline programme social workers and by teams led by Firstline leaders, and we work with more than a third of all local authorities across England. All those who complete one of these programmes become Frontline fellows; through our Fellowship we are working to innovate and drive broader change for children and families inside and outside of local authority social work. For the past five years, Frontline has also been listed in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers – the first social work organisation to feature.

As the charity continues its significant growth in scale and impact, we know that we must continue to innovate, change, and adapt, as reflected in our ambitious 2020-2025 strategy. Frontline is now looking for an inspirational leader to join our board as Chair and guide the organisation through the next phase of our development. The Chair will provide effective leadership to a high calibre and engaged group of trustees, ensuring a high standard of good governance is maintained.

We are looking for a highly effective communicator who will quickly build relationships across the organisation as well as act as a visible and passionate ambassador for the charity with key external stakeholders including central government. Candidates will be established senior leaders from the public, private or not-for profit sectors comfortable advocating for and representing the charity at the highest levels, with an understanding of and ability to navigate our complex stakeholder landscape. They will be motivated by a deep passion for Frontline’s mission to create social change for children who do not have a safe or stable home by developing excellent social work practice and leadership. This is an opportunity to lead the board of a charity which is committed to developing skilled and dedicated social work professionals who can empower children to achieve their full potential, help to break the cycle of trauma and disadvantage, and create long-term social change for these children and their families.
