The General Dental Council (GDC) is the UK-wide statutory regulator of around 113,000 dental professionals, including over 42,000 dentists and 71,000 dental care professionals. The GDC’s primary purpose is to protect patient safety and maintain public confidence in dental services. To achieve this it registers qualified professionals, sets and enforces standards of dental practice, investigates fitness to practise complaints, and ensures the quality of dental education.
The GDC is now looking for a new Independent Member of the Audit and Risk Committee to monitor the integrity of the financial statements, review the GDC’s governance, internal control and risk management systems and monitor the effectiveness of the internal and external audit services. There is a financial rigour and transparency in the GDC, and the new Independent Member will be an important part of that going forward.
The successful candidate will be a senior, qualified accounting professional, with expertise in audit, risk management and assurance, and an understanding of public sector accountancy or financial reporting. Comfortable with the roles and responsibilities of a non-executive committee member, they will be supportive and collaborative team-players, with the ability to constructively challenge and show independence of view.
