Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation

Vice Chair

Job Reference AAGTD
Closing Date Thursday 17 Oct 2024

At Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation, our mission is clear – to drive more equitable health. For over 500 years, we have been a constant in London’s ever-changing landscape, at the leading edge of health. As one of the largest charitable foundations in the UK, we can take a long-term view, while addressing the real and urgent health issues of today. As an independent foundation, we invest, partner, engage and influence and work with our communities, partners, and hospitals, to tackle health challenges from many angles and use our assets to transform lives.  We take a portfolio approach, driving impact in different ways: through our endowment to invest in a healthier society, our NHS charities (Guy’s & St Thomas’ Charity, Guy’s Cancer Chairty, and Evelina London Children’s Charity) and programmatic work through Impact on Urban Health.

We are now looking for a Vice Chair to join our Board and further our mission of building the foundations of a healthier society. This is a deeply exciting opportunity to help shape the future of our work and significantly heighten the impact that we have.

As Vice Chair, you will play an important role in the governance of the Foundation, providing vital feedback to the Chair on efficiency, offering advice, and acting as an influential thought partner to the Chair. You will also act as a key partner in establishing positive relationships not only across the Board, but also as the lead partner between the board and executive team. You may also be called upon to deputise for the Chair should the need arise.

We are looking for individuals who bring experience of operating collaboratively at Board-level in a non-executive capacity, with a prior understanding of charity governance. You will also bring senior experience in a field relevant to the factors that contribute to health inequalities, and a passion for the healthcare landscape and interest in driving more equitable health. We are looking for individuals who will bring gravitas and strong relationship building skills with the ability to engage with a diverse set of stakeholders, along with inclusive leadership skills and a strategic mindset. You will also be mission and impact-driven and strongly aligned to our values.

We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where all belong. We therefore encourage applications from a diverse range of candidates.
