Health Data Research UK

Chair and Deputy Chair

Job Reference ABICA
Closing Date Monday 17 Apr 2023

Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) is the UK’s national institute for health data science. Working with 38 Universities and research Institutes we are uniting the UK’s data to enable discoveries that improve people’s lives. Our vision is to harness the 4th industrial revolution so that every health and care interaction and research endeavour will be enhanced by access to large scale data and advanced analytics.  We have an exciting and critical role to play in the acceleration of innovation and improvement in health outcomes through access to large scale data and advanced analytics.

With support from nine funders including the Medical Research Council, Cancer Research UK, NIHR and the British Heart Foundation the Institute has built strong foundations over the last five years. It is now moving into a second phase with the ambition to undertake research for the benefit of the 66M people in the UK with global reach. In this important phase, we are looking to recruit a new Chair and Deputy Chair to provide leadership to the organisation, and shape the Board for the future as several highly experienced and influential Trustees reach the end of their term. This is an exciting opportunity to shape our future vision, direction, and in turn, impact the wider UK healthcare landscape and deliver public benefit through collaboration at a remarkable scale across government, academia, the NHS, industry and the third sector.

Successful candidates will bring non-executive experience of one or more complex organisations undergoing organisational and cultural change and building high performing board teams, with experience chairing if considering the position of Chair. You will have excellent communication skills, and the ability to build working relationships with a range of stakeholders across academia, commercial, public and third sectors. This is a high-profile leadership role that demonstrates a clear commitment to HDR UK’s values, and an agility and passion for our work to harness data to improve people’s lives.
