Hestia

Trustee

Job Reference VAAQAQ
Closing Date Thursday 16 Sep 2021

For 50 years Hestia has provided support and hope every step of the way of recovery. We believe that no-one should suffer alone. We support people in their moment of crisis and enable them to build a life beyond crisis. We have a diverse range of specialisms and work with victims and survivors of domestic abuse, victims of modern slavery, people with mental health problems, adults leaving prison, older people as well as care leavers. Last year we supported 15,238 men, women and children in London and the Southeast. We have almost 700 hundred staff and are supported by nearly 950 volunteers across London.

The last year has been a challenging time for our service users and Hestia has adapted in response to this. Prior to the pandemic we were working to diversify our income streams and broaden our supporter base. While Hestia has traditionally been funded mostly through partnerships with local authorities the last three years have seen a strategic shift to grow and diversify voluntary income streams. Now, three years into a five-year strategy and with a permanent Director of Fundraising and Communications in place, Hestia has seen the benefit of this approach and sees significant opportunity to take its fundraising to the next level.

It is in this context that Hestia is looking to appoint someone who will contribute broadly as a Trustee, but also bring valuable knowledge and networks around grant-making and/or philanthropy. Candidates will need to be strategically minded and bring an understanding of the role of a Trustee and a willingness to devote the necessary time to their role. The Board of Hestia should reflect the ethnic diversity of the population of the areas it serves. We are prioritising diversifying our board and would warmly encourage people from under-represented groups to come forward for a conversation.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to Hestia on this appointment.
