John Whitgift Foundation
Chair
Location: Whitgift Almshouses, George Street, Croydon
Time commitment: 1-2 days a month
420 years since we were set up by the then Archbishop of Canterbury, John Whitgift, we remain committed to our vision to bring young and old people from all walks of life together to build a sense of community in all that we do. We own and operate Trinity and Whitgift School in Croydon and support social mobility in the local community through being one of the largest bursary providers in the country. We provide care and housing for the elderly, a Carer’s Information Service and have land and commercial assets in and around the town of Croydon.
With a team of 850 employees, assets of around £165m and an annual expenditure of circa £86m, we are conscious of our role in championing and contributing to the success of Croydon. We are looking for a new Chair to work with the Court of Governors and the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer to shape the Foundation’s long-term strategy.
You will be an experienced trustee who wants to become a champion of Croydon. Adept in charity governance and rooted in heritage you will be excited about the future of the organisation. As our Chair you will enable the Court of Governors to deliver the Foundation’s charitable objects to educate and care for the people of Croydon. You will hold us to account, and you will challenge and support us. You will engage with our key stakeholders, so we are able to contribute fully to the success of a thriving Croydon.
John Whitgift Foundation is proud to be an equal opportunities employer, and we’re committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We actively seek applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and can provide the support you need to thrive: we believe our differences make us stronger.
