Non-Executive Directors

Job Reference TKYEUB
Closing Date Wednesday 02 Dec 2020

King’s is one of the largest and busiest teaching hospitals in London with a well-established national and international reputation for clinical excellence, innovation and achievement. As both a healthcare provider and a major employer, with over 12,000 staff across its various sites, King’s plays an important part in helping reduce local social and health inequalities. A key part of achieving success in these areas will be in the Trust’s ability to build strong partnerships and an integrated approach across healthcare systems. This agenda has become even more important. Through the extraordinary events of COVID-19, colleagues have worked hard to treat and protect patients: the pandemic has presented a distinctive challenge, which the Trust has met with energy, determination and compassion.
In this context, the incoming Non-Executive Directors will work with the Board and its Chair, Sir Hugh Taylor, to develop King’s strategy, enhancing its ability to deliver the ambitious vision to transform King’s into a fundamentally new kind of Trust built around patient need, offering all patients – local, national and international – the highest quality of care. We are delivering this as part of a joined-up and well-managed healthcare system, built in partnership with GPs, commissioners and other healthcare providers.
During this pivotal time, the Trust is looking for up to three new Non-Executive Directors to join the Board; two of these appointments will be a Finance Non-Executive and a Clinical Non-Executive. The Finance Non-Executive will have recent and relevant senior strategic financial experience, possibly with a strong commercial grounding in organisations of real scale and complexity. They will provide strategic advice and guidance to a strong executive group which has made real progress in work to exit Financial Special Measures. The Clinical Non-Executive will have Board level experience, strong strategic skills and will be a clinician with a background in medicine, general practice, primary care, public health, clinical research or academia. This is also an opportunity to bring a wide perspective around how the Trust can deepen relationships with partners (including neighbouring Trusts as well as King’s Health Partners) to deepen integration and collaborative working. No matter their background, all candidates will have a track record of excellence in their field, and have the stature, intellect and strategic ability to contribute actively to the Board of a large, complex organisation. The time requirement will be around three days per month; the roles are remunerated.
These roles offer an exceptional opportunity to share your talents and expertise to make a positive difference to people’s lives while supporting one of the UK’s leading NHS Trusts as it embraces the exciting and life enhancing developments of integrated healthcare for the 21st century.
