Director of Policy and Research

Job Reference UAJAE
Closing Date Wednesday 24 Jun 2020

Location: Central London/currently home-working
At some point in our lives, everyone will be affected by dying, death and bereavement. Marie Curie is dedicated to ensuring that people get the end of life experience they deserve. Everything we do –from providing expert care, practical information and emotional support to funding ground-breaking research and advocating for change – helps people approaching the end of their lives, and their loved ones, make the most of the time they have together. The global COVID-19 pandemic has heightened public appreciation of this issue and presents a real opportunity for us to make a step-change in our impact.
We are now seeking to appoint a Director of Policy and Research to play a critical leadership role within the Fundraising and Engagement (F&E) Directorate, working to influence policy, practice and public opinion so that we can improve the end of life experience for more people, including the people who care about them. Having recently brought Research into the F&E Directorate, your role will be to help align the Policy and Public Affairs (PPA) and Research functions into a single, unified department. Working closely with the Executive Leadership Team, you will be responsible for developing and executing our overarching influencing strategy.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding leader with a proven track record in strategic development and implementation within a policy and influencing context. You will have exceptional interpersonal skills, and the credibility and confidence to win support from decision-makers at the highest levels. You will bring strong leadership, and you will be an excellent team worker who will be able to inspire and motivate people internally and externally.
You will bring deep knowledge of the health and social care sector, and an understanding of how policy decisions are made and how to use public and private influence to create change will be essential. You will also have an appreciation for the role of evidence-based research in shaping policy and practice, as will be an authentic desire to work in the voluntary sector and a genuine commitment to the work of Marie Curie.
