Founded in 1843, Marlborough College is the largest co-educational full boarding school in the UK with 962 pupils, aged 13 to 18 years. The College is academically ambitious, offering a contemporary, challenging and enriching education where service to others is of profound importance.
The College offers a fast paced, modern education which is inclusive and diverse. It is proud of its Anglican heritage and is situated in an historically significant setting at the western end of the Wiltshire market town of Marlborough. It occupies 286 acres of stunning and significant landscape. The Marlborough Mound, a man-made structure dating back to 2,400BC, lies at the heart of the campus and the school itself is built on the ancient palace of King John.
The College now seeks a new Chair, who will succeed Lord Malloch-Brown during an exciting time of change and development. During a period of challenge for the sector, the next Chair will oversee the work of a highly capable Council, a new and ambitious Master (Louise Moelwyn-Hughes) and an outstanding community in the UK and Malaysia. Core to the role will be leadership of the Council, ensuring its effective operation, managing its business and providing clear direction. More broadly, the Chair will play a key role in articulating and developing a vision for the future of the College, providing support, advice, and challenge, where necessary, to the College‘s leadership..
The appointee will be an exceptional individual with a clear passion for Marlborough College, as well as the gravitas, experience, and intellect to be credible as Chair. They will bring an understanding of the role of Chair, significant strategic insight, and the ability to analyse, understand, and communicate complicated information in order to influence and engage others. They will possess an international mind-set, a fair and impartial approach to difficult questions, and the highest standards of integrity and honesty.
The College follows recommended safe recruitment guidelines including enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service checks.
