Metropolitan Police Service

Director of Culture Change

Job Reference HAQKH
Closing Date Monday 12 Jun 2023

The Met’s job and mission is clear, to achieve More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards.

The Casey Review outlined how the model of policing by consent, pioneered in London and admired and replicated around the world, requires the Met to both earn and maintain public trust in everything it does. However, there has been a declining public confidence and trust in the institution recently.

To support us positively changing the culture of the Met we will appoint an experienced Director of Culture Change.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the senior team, to create an environment that leads and drives positive culture change. Our new Director will drive a transformation programme enabling and working in support of the wider change agenda at the heart of the Met and across the entire organisation’s culture. They will seek to reset the way in which the Met works with its communities, victims and witnesses, to truly reflect the richness and diversity of the global city it serves.

The successful candidate will work with senior leaders, transforming the Met’s culture and internal practices to ensure that it is a modern, fit for purpose organisation. Supporting the Commissioner and Management Board with expert advice, ensuring a quality diversity and inclusion agenda is embedded across the organisation, reflecting the needs of the communities it serves across London and for its own people.  Externally, they will play an influential role with a range of stakeholders to manage the significant responsibilities and complex community engagements for policing in London.

Candidates will bring an understanding and track record of delivering culture change within large, complex operational organisations. This will be supported by evidenced based approaches to culture change and EDI policies and a strong understanding of London, of metropolitan cities, as a community. An outstanding relationship builder and influencer at senior levels internally and externally, the successful candidate will also be a resilient, solutions-focused people leader. Strong candidates will have operated in organisations of scale and complexity.
