The National Trust for Scotland (The Trust) is the independent, conservation charity that protects and promotes Scotland’s natural and cultural heritage for present and future generations to enjoy. With over 350,000 members, it is the largest membership charity in Scotland. Established in 1931, the Trust acts as guardian of much of the nation’s most important architectural, scenic, and historic treasures. The Trust acts on behalf of everyone to safeguard our heritage, caring for more than 100 sites across Scotland, from historic houses, major battlefields, more than 70 gardens, landscapes such as Glencoe, birthplace museums including Robert Burns, and the only dual World Heritage Site in the UK – St Kilda.
This is an extraordinary time for the sector as we navigate Covid-19, and the Trust has taken vital steps to address these challenges. The Trust is seeking an exceptional Chief Financial Officer with the strategic, operational and leadership capabilities to support the Trust through this time and ensure the provision of efficient finance and business support services. The successful candidate will be accountable for the direction and leadership of the finance directorate and will play a critical role in fostering a focussed approach across the Trust. The CFO will be highly visible internally and externally and will bring excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates may come from a variety of sectors and will exhibit commercial drive and entrepreneurial flair to enhance and improve the financial position of the Trust.
Candidates will have a compelling track record of leading transformational change within a complex organisation of comparable scale and they must be able to demonstrate the cultural flexibility to work within the diverse nature of a charitable body such as the Trust. The appointed candidate will report to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board.
