National Wealth Fund
Managing Director – Credit Risk

The National Wealth Fund (NWF), formerly known as the UK Infrastructure Bank, is a mission-driven investment institution with £27.8bn of public capital and a mandate to mobilise private investment across the UK’s most critical sectors. With independence in investment decision-making, our goal is to mobilise capital into clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and strategic infrastructure—delivering long-term economic and environmental benefits.
We are now looking for a Managing Director – Credit Risk to play a pivotal role in shaping our risk function. The Managing Director – Credit Risk will lead the second-line credit risk function at the National Wealth Fund, ensuring a rigorous and proportionate approach to risk assessment. You will be responsible for setting and maintaining credit risk frameworks, reviewing investment proposals, and advising senior leadership on risk appetite and governance. You will report to the Chief Risk Officer and provide independent challenge on credit risk exposures across debt, equity, and guarantees. As a key voice at Investment Committee, ExCo, and Board discussions, you will help define the risk standards that underpin the Fund’s long-term success.
We are looking for an exceptional credit risk leader with deep expertise in corporate and infrastructure finance. You will have a strong track record in credit risk leadership, with experience in financial institutions, infrastructure investment, or structured finance. You will be able to assess complex transactions and clearly articulate risk positions, and you will have experience advising senior executives, investment committees, and boards. A commercial, pragmatic approach—balancing risk oversight with investment objectives—will be key to success in this role. Knowledge of government-backed investment models would be an advantage but is not essential.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the risk function of a new, high-impact institution at the heart of the UK’s investment landscape. As part of a dynamic, purpose-driven team, you will work on innovative financing solutions that support long-term national growth.
