Location: Central London
For sixty years, the Overseas Development Institute has been at the forefront of fresh and innovative thinking on humanitarian and international development issues. As the leading think tank in its area, ODI promotes global progress and prosperity by focusing on improving the lives of the world’s poorest people. Its cutting-edge research, capacity to convene key stakeholders, and track record as a trusted advisor have cemented ODI’s reputation and impact for the benefit of those who need it most.
As part of ODI’s exciting next phase of development, we are now looking for a Managing Director to join our strong executive leadership team to take the lead for our programmes and management. Working in partnership with the Managing Director, Research & Policy, you will lead and nurture the high performing programme leadership team and set ODI’s programme agenda within the context of evolving global challenges and the Institute’s overall strategy. You will supervise, guide and support ODI’s Heads of Business Development and Project Cycle Management, ensuring these functions effectively support all programmes. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and executive team colleagues in ensuring ODI anticipates and responds to the demands for its expertise sustainably, effectively and impactfully. As a member of the senior leadership team, you will also contribute to the wider strategic and operational demands of the organisation.
With clear understanding of the international political context affecting development policy and the strategic issues faced at global level, you will have substantial leadership experience in global affairs, international development, humanitarianism, or in relatable fields, and you will bring significant knowledge of programme management, business development and policy influence. You will have existing relationships with potential funding bodies with a proven ability to raise funds, build and manage programmes of work, and the capacity to influence policy agendas across the public, private and civil society space. You will also bring strong programme management skills from both a strategic and operational perspective, with excellent people leadership skills. If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.
