Place2Be, King’s College London (KCL) and South London and Maudsley (SLaM) are delighted to be making an exciting joint appointment at what comes as a pivotal point for the organisations and is an opportunity to shape and make a real difference in children’s mental health and early intervention.

The Maudsley Hospital and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London form the leading centre for research and practice into child and young people’s mental health in Europe, whilst Place2Be is the leading provider of school-based mental health support and expert professional development to improve the emotional wellbeing of children and young people, families, teachers and school staff, partnering with almost 300 primary and secondary schools across England, Scotland and Wales, and reaching a school population in excess of 116,000 children and young people.

Working in collaboration with SlaM and KCL, Place2Be seeks a Clinical Director who will play a significant role, bringing together and further developing research between the organisations and who will be responsible for clinical leadership and expanding the impact of the Place2Be service. Leveraging the expertise and network of KCL and SlaM, the Clinical Director will ensure that Place2Be’s interventions are leading edge and informed by findings of the latest research in mental health, neuroscience and education. The successful applicant will be encouraged and supported to develop clinical, research and teaching interests (in line with the P2B agenda) within SLaM and KCL and will have access to the institutions’ many academic facilities and teaching/training events, as well as the opportunity to join meetings with senior CAMHS psychologist colleagues to develop clinical networks.

The successful candidate person will ensure that our interventions are innovative, consistent and continually improving, informed by best practice from research and evidence externally, new developments in technology and internal practice review and evaluation.  S/he will bring substantial senior leadership and clinical experience in the field of children and young people’s mental health services, ideally with experience of working in schools. They will have a strategic outlook with excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong collaborative links across the organisation, with NHS partners and externally. A sound understanding of quality assurance and effective performance monitoring will also be important.
