At the Port of London Authority (PLA), we are responsible for the tidal Thames, 95 miles of river from Teddington Lock, through central London, out to the North Sea. Our world-famous port is the largest and fastest growing in the UK, and the Thames is the country’s busiest inland waterway for freight and passengers. We work to keep commercial and leisure users safe, protect and enhance the river environment and promote the use of the river for trade and travel.

We are looking for an experienced HR leader to join our executive team. This is an outstanding opportunity to join the Port of London Authority as our key champion of people leadership and change, with oversight of our HR function and organisation development.

The Director of HR will play a critical role shaping and delivering our people strategy to adapt the PLA for a post-Covid world. Continuing to drive transformation and modernisation across the organisation, the Director of HR will bring a fresh and invigorated approach to key initiatives to keep our 400-strong team safe, and build an engaged, motivated and high-performance workforce, equipped and ready for the challenges and changes that we face.

The PLA is a delivery-oriented organisation, with a strong emphasis upon day-to-day operations. It is therefore essential that our Director of HR can operate both strategically and tactically and with an eye for operational detail.

The successful candidate will be an experienced HR leader with a strong strategic outlook and a robust, pragmatic approach. You will be effective at operating within a complex and fast-paced operational environment and able to work collaboratively with a wide range of people.
