The RAF Benevolent Fund is the Royal Air Force’s leading welfare charity, providing financial, practical and emotional support to all members of the RAF Family. We have a vision where no member of the RAF Family will ever face adversity alone. Loyal, generous and always there, we support current and former members of the RAF, their partners and families. Whether it’s support with housing, advice, specialist services, mental wellbeing support or childcare provision at RAF stations, our work provides support to veterans and serving RAF personnel and their families alike, ensuring they have the quality of life that they so richly deserve.
Our current Chair reaches the end of his statutory term of office in January 2022, and we are now looking for an outstanding individual to lead our Board of Trustees. The Chair will make a real contribution to modernising our future by providing energy, drive and leadership both as an ambassador for our charity and by enabling the Board to fulfil its responsibilities for governance and overall strategic direction.
Candidates will bring experience of successful senior leadership of a complex organisation in any sector (public, private, civil society or Armed Forces) alongside substantial experience of external representation, and especially the management and influencing of senior stakeholders. Engaging and robust, experience of charity governance and working with or as part of a Board of Trustees is deeply valued as is a clear appreciation of our mission and that of the wider military sector.
The Chair is appointed for an initial four-year term and is eligible for reappointment for one further term of four years.
