The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (Central) is an internationally recognised institution of the theatrical and performing arts, and an independent federal member of the University of London. Placing students at the centre of its work, Central inspires, educates and trains the performers, practitioners and change-makers of tomorrow to shape the future of theatre and performing arts across the UK and beyond. We offer a combination of world recognised teaching and research that places us uniquely amongst the landscape of the UK’s top conservatoires. Central’s illustrious alumni include Dame Judi Dench, Michael Grandage CBE, Martin Freeman, Cecilia Noble, Cush Jumbo, Riz Ahmed and Andrew Garfield.

The Board are now seeking three Independent Governors with a strong and visible passion for arts-based education alongside a commitment to the School’s values and culture of inclusivity.  This is an exciting moment to join Central as we embark on shaping a new Strategic Plan for the coming years, and the Independent Governors will play a critical role in the future of Central, providing contribution and constructive challenge and supporting the Principal and Executive Team in determining future strategic objectives.

Candidates will be senior leaders and be able to contribute at Board level with confidence and credibility, with a clear understanding of change management, both cultural change and engagement, and strong inter-personal, networking and relationship building abilities will be important. The Board is particularly interested in people bringing experience in the following areas:

  • Finance (this person will Chair the Finance Committee)
  • Industry experience (theatre, film, TV, performing arts)
  • Fundraising and Philanthropy

Central particularly welcomes interest from people who bring characteristics or come from backgrounds that are underrepresented at board level.
