The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the voice of psychiatry, campaigning to ensure that mental health gets equal treatment to physical health so services get a fair deal. With 18,000 members, it is responsible for supporting psychiatrists throughout their careers, from training through to retirement, and in setting and raising standards of Psychiatry in the United Kingdom. The College aims to improve outcomes for people with mental illness and the mental health of individuals, their families and communities. Nationally and internationally, the College plays a vital role in representing the expertise of the psychiatric profession to governments and other agencies.

This is a pivotal point for the Royal College of Psychiatrists, which plays a critical role in the ongoing public discourse around mental health, helping to reduce the stigma around seeking help for and discussing mental health. The College now seeks to appoint three new Lay Trustees to join its Trustee Board, bringing multi-faceted, strategic-level experience to help the organisation maximise its impact and its contribution, and the support and opportunity it brings its members. The Board of Trustees is looking for individuals with board-level experience, strong strategic skills, and particular expertise in law, finance or HR. With high intellectual capabilities, strong communication and stakeholder management skills, and an empathy with the mission of the College, the Lay Trustees will play a key role in developing the vision and strategy of this important organisation.

The College values a diverse workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community, reflecting the population it serves.
