The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the professional medical body responsible for supporting psychiatrists, and for setting and raising standards of psychiatry in the UK. We work to secure the best outcomes for people with mental illness, learning difficulties and developmental disorders by promoting excellent mental health services, training outstanding psychiatrists, promoting quality and research, setting standards and being the voice of psychiatry. Our values underpin everything we do – you can find out more about these here.
The College is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion for our existing and future members, associates, affiliates, staff and visitors in all our practices and arrangements. In January 2021 we published our new Equality Action Plan, which is central to our College strategy.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for ensuring the long-term success of the College, maximising its impact and making sure it sets the agenda in the delivery of excellent mental health services, enabling psychiatrists and other mental health staff to deliver excellent patient care. It does this by rigorously testing the College’s strategy and effectiveness of its delivery, and ensuring strategic risks are identified and managed. As a member of the Board, you will act collectively to provide strategic leadership to the College; you will add value by contributing experience particularly in the area of Human Resources.
The successful candidate will bring demonstrable leadership experience and achievement in the HR field, with the ability to operate and think strategically and collectively. With a good understanding of corporate governance and board responsibilities, you will be an effective communicator who can challenge constructively and respectfully. You will also have a demonstrable ability to understand and evaluate complex issues, including budgets, business plans and annual accounts. An individual with independence and integrity, you will be supportive of the College’s values.
