St Christopher’s Hospice exists to promote and provide skilled and compassionate end of life care of the highest quality. Established in 1967, we have always been a centre of innovation and insight. Today we are so much more than a hospice, offering practical, emotional and spiritual support to over 7,500 people in the local area each year. We have an international reputation for providing care, delivering teaching and engaging in research and we are poised to open a world class education facility, St Christopher’s CARE, that will build on this work for future generations.
The Board of St Christopher’s is now looking to appoint an outstanding Chair to ensure we continue to be a centre of excellent care and innovation, maintain our international reputation, and implement our strategic objectives. The Chair will work closely with our Joint Chief Executives. These are challenging times for the hospice sector and our next Chair will provide leadership to the board to ensure St Christopher’s continues to flourish and deliver its strategic ambitions.
Candidates must have a strong commitment to the mission of St Christopher’s and the work we do in palliative and end of life care. Substantial experience of operating at a senior strategic level will be crucial, whether that is in the commercial, non-profit or public sectors. Experience of effective chairing and knowledge of what good governance looks like will be key, as will outstanding leadership, communication and ambassadorial skills. The time commitment for this role is anticipated to be three to four days per month.
St Christopher’s is inclusive. We believe that a diverse workforce encourages innovation, creativity and positive challenge. We also think that our workforce should reflect the communities that we serve. We welcome applications from people from all walks of life and backgrounds and particularly those with lived experience. This is the opportunity to be a part of the leadership of an internationally recognised organisation that has been at the forefront of palliative and end of life care for more than half a century.
