Chair of Trustees

Job Reference UAQIA2
Closing Date Monday 07 Jan 2019

One of the oldest charitable foundations in the UK, St John’s Winchester provides almshouses and specialist residential dementia care for older people in the city of Winchester.  Central to St John’s is a commitment to fostering a vibrant community where older people can continue to live full and rich lives.  The charity’s almshouses offer independent housing for up to 100 residents, and since its establishment it has built up a substantial commercial and residential property portfolio worth £43m which is leveraged to support those of limited financial means.

St John’s is about to embark on a period of significant strategic change involving major capital development, a step change in its community services provision, transformation of its existing properties and opportunities for partnership.  It is in this context that the charity is looking to appoint a new Chair of the Board of Trustees.

The new Chair will provide leadership for the board overseeing the development of a new strategy for this ambitious charity. The successful candidate will demonstrate significant non-executive experience in leadership positions as both trustee and chair. Integrity, vision and sound judgement are prerequisites, as are diplomacy and a nuanced approach.  A wide network across Winchester or Hampshire will be helpful, though not essential.  The successful candidate will have a clear affinity with St John’s’ charitable aims in addition to a commitment to social care.

Saxton Bampfylde is acting as an employment agency advisor to St John’s Winchester on this appointment.
