Chair of Governors

Job Reference GAKAYA
Closing Date Monday 17 Aug 2020

Founded in 1576 by William Lambe, Master of the Worshipful Company of Clothworkers, SVS remained under the control of the Clothworkers until 1910, when it joined United Westminster Schools. Becoming co-educational in 1983, the School now provides the opportunity for all-through education for both day and boarding pupils from ages 2 – 18. SVS views each child’s education as a journey, on which they are guided by expert tutors and teachers, receive bespoke support and advice and are empowered to achieve. Sutton Valence School is seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the role of Chair of Governors.
This is an exciting time to join the Governing Body at SVS, and the successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to work closely with the Headmaster in shaping the School’s strategic vision for the future. Collectively with the Board, the Chair will be responsible for the strategic plan for the School, working with the Senior Leadership Team to develop and drive the strategic plan forwards, ensure the quality of its curricular offering and maintain SVS’s financial stability.
Candidates should have leadership experience at Board level, experience of financial management and organisational budgets, a clear communication style and the ability to prioritise and sequence change while monitoring strategic plans. Direct or indirect experience of education and its changing landscape, in particular within the independent sector, would be useful. The successful candidate will share the vision, values and strategy of the School, demonstrating a commitment to charity and promoting its Christian ethos.
