Swansea University is seeking to appoint a research leader to its Biomedical Engineering Group within the College of Engineering, located on Swansea’s Bay Campus.

Now one of the top 10 in the UK, Swansea University’s College of Engineering has enjoyed a significant period of transformative growth, investment and development, including exceptional growth in research income.  Student and staff numbers have doubled over the last decade, and the international research profile of the College has grown substantially. The College is based within the largest knowledge economy project in the UK, the Bay Campus, one of the top five major infrastructure investments in Europe. This £450 million development on the eastern approach to the city signals our intention to be one of the finest places to live, teach, research and collaborate in Europe.

The Biomedical Engineering Group is one of six cross-cutting research groups within the Zienkiewicz Centre for Computational Engineering (ZCCE). ZCCE is a multidisciplinary engineering centre that is internationally recognised for its innovative computational research in different areas of engineering including aerospace, process industries, manufacturing and recently in biomedical engineering.

This appointment requires a strong individual with proven research credibility to play a leading role in developing research in biomedical engineering to help sustain our translational research agenda. The appointee will work with a group of eight academics to jointly strategize research and deliver research outcomes of internationally leading quality.  Strong candidates will have a sustained record of publications of world leading or internationally excellent research outputs, in terms of reach, significance and impact.  They will also bring a track record of attracting funding for and leading programmes of individual or collaborative research. Research interests in one or more of the following areas would be particularly welcome: Biomaterials, biomechanical engineering, soft tissue mechanics, computational biomedical engineering, stochastics.
