From its London and Yorkshire sites, the Library provides free access to resources that inspire millions of people every year, alongside world-class exhibitions that bring the stories of its collections to life.

The British Library is now seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as Head of Contemporary British Collections, overseeing three key collections: the Sound and Vision Collection, the Contemporary British and Irish Published Collection, and the Contemporary Archives and Manuscripts Collection. Reporting to the Director of Collection and Curation, this senior leadership role will guide the strategic development, stewardship, and public engagement of these collections. You will lead a team of 75, drive major projects and partnerships, and champion innovative ways to connect diverse audiences with the Library’s collections, delivering inspiring cultural experiences on a national and international scale.

The ideal candidate will bring significant leadership experience within libraries, archives, or cultural institutions, with expertise in curatorship and a deep understanding of contemporary collections. You will have a strong record of strategic planning, managing complex projects and budgets, and fostering high-impact partnerships. Excellent communication and people-management skills are essential, as is a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and broadening cultural engagement.
