The Elders is an unusual organisation with a distinct way of working. The Elders work strategically, focusing on areas where they are uniquely placed to make a difference. They are supported by a Secretariat based in London, and by the Advisory Council, including Patrons Sir Richard Branson and Peter Gabriel.
The Elders are now looking for outstanding candidates to lead the Secretariat as CEO. Reporting to the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as the other Elders, our next Chief Executive will be responsible for delivering our strategic and policy goals, developing new initiatives and implementing a future strategic framework to enhance our mission impact.
The next Chief Executive of The Elders will be responsible for continuing to build on the success and global profile of the organisation. The successful candidate will bring an empathy and strong passion for the work of The Elders. They will bring a profound understanding of the different policy areas The Elders focus upon and bring a finely tuned political antennae as well as the sensitivity to operate successfully in a variety of cultural environments. Through an innovative and inclusive approach, they will take the lead in liaising with key stakeholders to building productive and lasting partnerships and relationships. They will be a humble and proven ethical leader with a passion for justice, peace, and global human rights.
As well as bringing a global mindset, the successful candidate will have a track record of inspirational leadership, high integrity, and strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills. S/he should bring credibility and experience from the fields of international affairs, human rights, and international development.
