The Faraday Institution is the UK’s independent electrochemical energy storage research institute. Our goal is to make the UK a world leader in energy storage and to ensure the UK is well placed to take advantage of the future economic opportunities from this emerging technology.

The Faraday institution is looking to appoint the Head of Economics and Market Insights as part of its senior team. The mission of the Head of Economics and Market Insights is to make FI the go-to place for insights on the technological, economics and social benefits aspects of batteries and electrical energy storage and conversion.

Objectives and responsibilities of the role:

  • Develop and own the FI techno-economic and social models which covers supply (from mining through to cell production), demand (from automotive and energy), and cost (both environmental and implications for price). The models will provide a relatively high level view at a global level, with much more granularity for the UK.
  • Transform information gathered from the Business Intelligence Manager and the Expert Panel into useful insights to feed into the global model, open publications and private reports for the corporate programme members and governmental stakeholders.
  • Shape and run shorter research programmes (~3-6 months) on technical-economic topics, based on funders/ sponsors’ needs and in coordination with the Head of Programme Management.
  • Develop and lead a corporate programme that will be self-funded, provide unique insights to senior executives and create links to visiting dignitaries, while acting as a hub to enabling a better connection to the UK scientific, industrial and governmental spheres.

Note that the current focus of the Faraday Institution is on the auto sector, this role will likely extend to other areas in the future, such as energy grid, etc.

The Head of Economics and Market Insights will report directly to the FI CEO and manage the Business Intelligence Manager and the Business Analyst. He/she will work closely with the rest of the FI team, such as the Head of Engagement and Communication for the publication of reports and the participation at events and conferences, the Head or Programme management on the processes for short term research project, the FI expert panel on scientific insights, etc. The role will also involve regular interactions with external stakeholders such as industry partners, government bodies, UK policy groups, consulting firms, data suppliers.
