Chair

Job Reference JAGAKB
Closing Date Wednesday 03 Feb 2021

The Hyde Group is an award-winning provider of homes, combining social purpose with entrepreneurial drive and professionalism.
We are one of the largest housing associations working in England, owning or managing about 50,000 homes in London, Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, the East of England and East Midlands. The homes that we build, as well as the ones we already own, include those for shared ownership, social rent, outright sale and private rent. Hyde Housing Association is a not-for-profit organisation but our family of companies, which makes up the Hyde Group, includes charities and profit-making subsidiaries. The money that we make is used to build more homes for those excluded from the market.
When we launched our 30-year strategy in April 2020, we put a stake in the ground: we want to create a truly customer-driven organisation and to provide modern, energy efficient, and safe homes that meet peoples’ needs in the long term. Our strategy is about recognising the role we can play in improving people’s life chances, and creating social value for individuals, communities and society as a whole. To realise our ambitions, we will have to adapt and change our homes and adopt new ways of working and financing but will not lose sight of our vision, to provide a great home for everyone.
As our current Chair prepares to step down after serving his maximum term, we are looking for a new Chair to bring energy and focus to our high-calibre and collegiate board. We are open-minded about the sector background our new Chair will bring but the individual will be an experienced non-executive with strong business acumen, who is demonstrably capable of being effective and impactful in this high-profile role; we look forward to welcoming someone as Chair who will enjoy the scale of this £11bn organisation, who will bring humanity and commerciality to board discussions, and who has experience of helping to shape and broker complex partnerships. Our new Chair will be an authentic and determined champion for social housing, and the work we are doing to create a customer-driven organisation and a diverse, engaged and empowered workforce.
The role will require a time commitment of around 3-4 days a month and most board meetings take place at our Head office near London Bridge Station. The role will be remunerated at £31,500 a year.
