Clerk

Job Reference FACASD
Closing Date Wednesday 12 Aug 2020

The Leathersellers’ Company is a philanthropic organisation and one of the oldest livery companies in the City of London. Charitable giving, education and the leather trade represent the common thread between our rich history, the present day and the future.
The opening of our new hall in 2016 marked a new chapter for the Company and we have embraced a period of significant evolution as an organisation, including greater engagement with our younger members. We are ambitious to continue developing our contribution and partnerships with the charitable and education sectors, and with the leather industry, and believe we have built a strong platform from which the next Clerk will be able to facilitate change.
We are looking to appoint an exceptional individual for the role of Clerk to lead us through the next stage of our journey to develop into a more far-reaching philanthropic institution. We are addressing the subject of our future direction as a Company. Being a “force for good” requires a careful look inside our own organisation. We are not afraid of addressing key issues such as transparency, inclusivity, equality and modern values. We are in the process of developing a communications strategy, the scope of which will be wide-ranging to be consistent with being a progressive livery company that is a philanthropic organisation fit for the 21st century.
Candidates will bring a proven track record of success in a senior management role within a complex organisation with a diverse group of stakeholders. Financial acumen is essential, as is experience of representing an organisation externally. The Clerk is charged with managing the Company’s investments and properties, so an understanding of this would be advantageous.
With responsibility for the management and administration of every aspect of the life and activity of the Leathersellers’, the Clerk plays a key role liaising between the Company and its livery members, its charitable beneficiaries, education providers and the leather trade. In addition to managing our operations and resources, the Clerk will need to ensure that we can sustain a vibrant Livery, as well as shape, keep refreshed and deliver the Company’s philanthropic vision and mission during the next stage of our progress.
The Leathersellers’ Company is wholly committed to inclusion and diversity and we actively and warmly encourage applications from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.
