The National Brain Appeal (TNBA) funds advances in clinical care and research at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) and the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology (IoN).
NHNN is one of the world’s leading centres for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with neurological and neuromuscular conditions. These include spinal cord injuries, stroke, multiple sclerosis, brain cancer, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and dementias. Alongside treating patients from London and the Home Counties, the hospital is also a national, and international, referral centre for those with the most complex conditions. The IoN has a world-class reputation for neuroscience. Its mission is to translate neuroscience discovery research into treatments for patients.
TNBA’s mission is to support the development of new treatment and cures for the 100s of devastating neurological and neuromuscular conditions that affect 1 in 6 people in the UK (current figures stand at 14.7m). We do this by funding pioneering research, providing access to the best technology for expert diagnosis and treatment, and training tomorrow’s clinicians. To date, the charity has raised over £45m for state-of-the-art equipment, major building programmes and life-saving research – above and beyond what the NHS can provide. Over the next 20 years, Queen Square aims to deliver ambitious clinical and research strategies that will drive a major improvement in the outcome and quality of life for every individual with a neurological disorder.
Our Board is now looking to appoint an outstanding Chair with a deep empathy for the mission and values of The National Brain Appeal, who is highly ambitious to lead the development of our strategy and support our fundraising efforts to tackle neurological disease and support people living with neurological conditions to live their lives to the full.
We are committed to widening the diversity of our leadership and board and warmly encourage applications from a broad and deep range of backgrounds and experiences.
