The Brewers’ Company is seeking to recruit its next Clerk. The Worshipful Company of Brewers (www.brewershall.co.uk) is ranked fourteenth in order of precedence out of the 110 ancient Livery Companies of the City of London, and received its first charter in 1438. The Company maintains a strong and vibrant relationship with its industry, and has a membership drawn exclusively from the senior leadership of major brewers and those associated closely with the sector. In addition to support for its industry, key activities today include benevolence centred around education, social and other worthwhile causes.

The Company is now seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to the role of Clerk. The Clerk will act as Chief Executive of the Company, and is responsible to the annually-elected Master, Wardens and Court for the management of the Company and its staff. The role of Clerk is pivotal to the Company and the Court will look to the Clerk to develop and implement an agreed strategy for the Company that enables it to continue to advance, whilst remaining relevant to the brewing industry.

The Clerk will play a key role in the redevelopment of Brewers’ Hall, due to be completed in early 2022, and will be responsible for the leadership and management of the office team. They will liaise between the Company and its charitable beneficiaries, taking an active part in the Company’s associated Schools. An empathy with the ethos of the Company and an understanding of the City livery movement, as well as a willingness to attend out of hours events will be vital. The Clerk operates at the heart of the Company and plays a key role in developing and nurturing fruitful relationships amongst members and potential members and more widely across the industry.

Candidates for this role will bring a proven track record of success in a senior management role within a complex organisation with a diverse group of stakeholders. Financial acumen is essential, as is experience of representing an organisation externally. Experience with the management of property and investments would be advantageous.
