The Yehudi Menuhin School has a world class reputation for nurturing exceptional musical talent and realising students potential by providing a world class education. Yehudi Menuhin recognised the need to provide musically gifted children with excellent instrumental teachers, adequate time for practice, frequent opportunities for performance, a variety of ensemble work and a broad range of other music activities, together with a stimulating and creative academic programme. The School began life in London in 1963 with just fifteen pupils before moving in the following year to Stoke d’Abernon, a small village in Surrey, south west of London. There are now over fifty staff who provide the musical, academic and pastoral direction for around eighty boys and girls aged from 8 to 19.

The Yehudi Menuhin School is about to enter an exciting stage of development, with a dynamic new Head, Kate Clanchy, who has been in post since January 2018, and an exceptional Senior Leadership Team. The School are looking for a new Chair who can work with and provide support to the Head and the Senior Leadership Team through this period of transition. The Chair will play a key role in developing and  articulating and supporting an ambitious vision for the future of the School, which focuses on the continued pursuit of excellence in specialist education, as well as securing medium and long term financial and operational sustainability. The Chair will be an advocate for the School and its role as an international leader in specialist music education.

We are looking for an experienced non-executive with a strong personal commitment to education and music, as well as a belief in the ethos of The Yehudi Menuhin School. The Chair will bring an international mind-set, excellent communication skills and a commitment to engaging positively and openly with students, staff, the public and other stakeholders. The new Chair will play a key role  generating new and sustainable streams of income. The Yehudi Menuhin School is about to embark on an exciting chapter in its development as a world-leading provider of musical education, and encourages exceptional candidates to express an interest in being a part of shaping this vision.
