Non-Executive Board Directors, including Chair of Thirteen Homes

Job Reference JATAAA
Closing Date Friday 16 Jul 2021

Location: Middlesbrough.

Remuneration:

Chair of Thirteen Homes – £12,000 per year
Thirteen Group Board Member – £8,000 per year

Thirteen is the largest housing association in the North East and among the biggest 25 nationally. Today we own and manage some 34,000 properties in the region – but we’re more than just a landlord. We are all about providing homes, support and opportunities to grow, and our vision is of a caring landlord and housing developer, which recognises everyone as an individual. We go beyond bricks and mortar, and our range of extra services means we can give people a helping hand specifically tailored to them if they need it.

We are proud of the positive impact we are having and yet we see the homes and support services we provide today as just the beginning. Over the next five years we will invest over £1billion to improve our services, tenants’ homes and their neighbourhoods, as well as delivering new affordable homes.

At Thirteen we recognise the role we can play in increasing the supply of urgently needed new homes in our region and our private-market sale arm, Thirteen Homes, has the aim of becoming the house builder of choice in the North East and North Yorkshire. We are progressing at pace with our first major development at Howards Green in Darlington, and our plan is to deliver 300 new homes for outright sale, part exchange and Help To Buy over the next five years.

We are excited to have the opportunity now to bring in two people to join our group board, one of whom will also chair Thirteen Homes.

For the Chair of Thirteen Homes, we are looking for someone with strong and strategic level experience in residential development at scale, an understanding of governance, and a confident, inclusive chairing style.

For the second role, we have consciously kept the brief more inclusive and would welcome interest from people who are passionate about our region and bring some understanding of the communities we serve and how their needs are changing. We are particularly keen to attract people who will bring a strategic-level understanding of organisations delivering support services, the operational and contracting landscape in which they operate, and the network of charitable and public sector organisations who work together to support communities and individuals to thrive. Previous non-executive experience is not a requirement for this post.

At Thirteen, we like to be inclusive, looking at things from different perspectives to drive innovation. We have a clear intention and need to diversify our board over the coming years so we would like to very warmly encourage applications from individuals in under-represented groups to come forward for a conversation.
