Chief Executive

Job Reference QTFD
Closing Date Wednesday 09 Dec 2020

The Thomson Foundation is a unique organisation with a 60-year history of promoting excellence in journalism and supporting independent media across the world through training, consultancy and strategic advice. Through a network of media professionals with cutting-edge skills, it works with media, governments, civil society and commercial organisations looking to sponsor excellence in communications.
The vision underpinning its work – that everyone should have the right to an honest and factual account of what is really happening in the world – has never been more important or topical.
After a period of strong growth in its activities, the Thomson Foundation is seeking a new Chief Executive to maintain the momentum after the forthcoming retirement of the current office holder, Nigel Baker.
The Chief Executive will be a visible and inspiring leader to the core teams in London and Berlin, working with senior managers to ensure the Foundation’s continuing success. They will be responsible for reviewing, as well as evolving and executing, the Foundation’s strategy and business plan, identifying new areas for development or growth. This will be balanced with ensuring the charitable aims of the Foundation are delivered.
Motivated by the mission of the Foundation, candidates will be capable leaders. They will be adept at communicating effectively and building strong relationships inside and outside the organisation with a wide range of international stakeholders. Ideally, they will bring an understanding of international journalism and the sector within which the Foundation operates.
