The University of Aberdeen is delighted to announce the new prestigious post, Nisbet Chair in Education, building on the work of Aberdeen’s inspirational educational research leader and first President of the British Educational Research Association (BERA) – the late Professor John Nisbet.

This post comes at a significant time in the development of the School of Education, and at an exciting time for the institution having been awarded Scottish University of the Year 2019 (Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019).  With ambitious plans to further enhance the research profile of the School following success in the last REF, the Nisbet Chair & Director of Research will take a leading role in strengthening the School’s research profile; particularly building on expertise in Teacher Education and professional learning, which promotes research-led teaching.  With innovation and an international outlook at the core, they will continue to develop a culture within the School conducive to the delivery of world class research.   The School has strong partnerships with Local Authorities and Primary and Secondary Schools and is co-producing new ways of working with partners to meet regional challenges of Teacher Education, as well as engaging in national and international initiatives.
