Job Reference WNYM
Closing Date Monday 03 Apr 2023

The University of Nottingham provides an exceptional research-led education and an outstanding student experience. Our global outlook and pioneering heritage has seen us lead the way in establishing campuses in China and Malaysia – home to 11,500 of our 46,000 students – and cemented our position among the world’s best universities. Our reputation for transformational research that improves the lives of millions of people was recently recognised by the 2021 Research Excellence Framework which placed Nottingham 7th in the UK for research power.

Maintaining this global reputation, with influence and impact on an international knowledge economy, depends on the passion and commitment of all our community. University Council, our governing body, has a key role to play in the stewardship of the University, helping it to fulfil its mission and ensure ongoing integration with our diverse networks of people locally and globally.

The University of Nottingham is now looking to appoint an exceptional Treasurer and Chair of Finance Committee, who will bring a breadth of experience at board level alongside knowledge of complex governance from the public, private or third sectors. Additionally, the Council is seeking to appoint a Co-opted Member of Audit and Risk Committee. These roles will allow postholders to contribute their external skills and insights to the effective stewardship and strategic direction of the University.

The University recognises the benefit of a diverse Council which represents our student body and the global community we serve. We would welcome applications from candidates from backgrounds which are currently underrepresented. Council members will provide advice, support and expertise to ensure that the University’s activities and management are both effective and efficient, establishing constructive, supportive and appropriately challenging working relationships with senior staff across the institution.

A passion for, a personal interest in and a commitment to higher education is critical as is a commitment to the values, aims and objectives of the University. Council meets six times per year and although these positions are not remunerated reasonable expenses will be paid.
