Following the appointment of the incumbent to a Vice-Chancellor’s position, the University is looking to appoint an exceptional individual to lead on research, innovation and business engagement.

The successful candidate will be an exceptional academic with a national and international research profile within any of the disciplines present at the University. This will be combined with outstanding leadership and people skills and the ability to take key decisions based on a clear vision, while promoting collaboration and achieving consensus. The successful candidate will be expected to further develop the existing strong research and innovation culture, building on the excellence demonstrated in the last REF exercise. This will involve facilitating further growth in staff engagement with research and innovation activities, including publication and income generation.  The PVC will play a leading role in developing and championing our research and innovation specialisms along with our newly established cross-disciplinary thematic areas: Future and Emerging Technologies; Health and Wellbeing; Security and Risk; Sustainability and the Environment; Democratic Citizenship.

You will join the University’s Executive Board, reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in finalising the REF 2021 submission and will make a key contribution to the development of the new University 2020-25 strategy and lead the development of the supporting R&I strategy over the next 18 months.
